Beijing's incidence of crime cases in the Aug. 8-24 Olympic period dropped to the lowest in eight years, the city's public security bureau said Friday.
The number of crime cases per day during Aug. 8-24 went down by 72.2 percent year-on-year, and the total number of street crimes in 16 days decreased to the lowest since 2008, the bureau told Friday's press conference.
The police kept intensifying security measures and cracking down on crimes before the Games to guarantee a good public order, an official from bureau said.
Beijing police cracked 930 street crime cases such as theft, robbery and fraud from July 1 to Aug 24, and seized 1,000 suspects, with 40 foreigners included.
All 40 foreign suspects have been detained or expelled from the country. The bureau did not reveal their nationalities or names.
The bureau said Beijing police force would continue their efforts in maintaining public order during the Paralympic Games which will kick off on September 6.
